Built in Britain. Built for Readiness.
Brass Monkey designs and builds cold water immersion systems, and the standard that governs how they're used safely and effectively. Founded in 2021. Designed, engineered and built in Yorkshire. Supported by our team for as long as the system runs.
It started with a chest freezer
It was 2018 maybe, the first guided ice bath I had, it was a bit like being electrocuted. A full-body jolt. Like nothing I'd ever experienced. Slowly, my brain relaxed into my body, then it happened. A stillness. All I could think was: just keep breathing. The cold water got to work. Feelings of frustration and anxiety left behind in the water. That's when I first felt what the cold could do.
Fast forward: 2020 was a heavy year for many people, our founder included. Cold water immersion helped, and, locked down, he converted a chest freezer into an ice bath. Was it safe? No. Was it full of practical problems? Yes. Did it help? Absolutely.
The question that followed built the company: how many other people would benefit from a safe, engineered way into cold water? He couldn't find an ice bath he felt did the job. So, with two co-founders, Dale and Chris, we built Brass Monkey v1 in a garage in North Yorkshire.
See what we build todayBy 2022, it became a system, not a bath
The bath is the part you see. It's the start, not the end point.
Cold water immersion, done properly, is stress training you choose: a dosed, controlled rep of stress, and the work of coming back down. Our T>C>R™ model (Tolerance > Capacity > Regulation) describes how the practice is built, and everything we build exists to deliver it reliably: the engineered bath, the filtration and chill plant behind it, and HALO, our proprietary connected platform that monitors temperature, device status, uptime and firmware across every installation, underpinning the support contracts that keep it all running. The operator runs the bath; HALO is the seven-figure system that gives everybody eyes on it.

The hardware.
Ice baths engineered for daily use, at home and at commercial scale.

The intelligence.
HALO connected monitoring on every commercial system.

The standard.
The Cold Standard: our governance framework for science, infrastructure and compliance.
Designed, engineered and built in Yorkshire
Every Brass Monkey system is designed, welded and tested at our workshop on Thorp Arch Trading Estate, near Wetherby. Steel, plumbing, chill plant, firmware: the whole system comes together on one production floor, by people who put their name to it.
That matters after the sale. When you need us, you reach the team that built your system, engineers rather than a call centre, for as long as it runs.
Nearly 2,000 installations run on that promise.

Around 45 of us, and a standard we all answer to
Brass Monkey is around 45 people across engineering, the workshop, installation, customer care, sales and science. Small enough that the person who answers your call knows the person who welded your bath.
What holds it together is governance. Phil Learney, our Head of Science, oversees every claim we make about cold water immersion. Each one is graded against the evidence: we state what's proven, we qualify what's emerging, and we don't say what the science can't support. That discipline is written into The Cold Standard, and it's why operators, practitioners and households can trust what we tell them.

From Yorkshire, worldwide
Our systems ship from our Yorkshire HQ to facilities around the world. A small APAC office in Singapore works directly with hotel, spa and wellness operators across the region: same systems, same standard, same support ethos.
